A Former Microsoft IIS PM

The past few days, I have noticed a trend whereby users are suddenly re-invigorated to determine if IIS is installed on their system(s).  This, I hope, is because of the solid reputation that IIS 6.0 has for being a strong, robust, Enterprise-ready web platform.  The last time folks kept asking was not for positive reasons, unfortunately (can you say Code Red?)

The most valuable friend to an IT Professional or Developer who uses IIS is a little-bitty check-mark field that is not enabled by default.  This field is the red-headed stepchild of logging but one that plays so many friendly tunes for you to determine what requests are taking a long time.  The relative thing is “long time” in most environments as one’s long time might be 2 seconds while another’s is 10.

Last year, I did a presentation in the IIS Webcast Series called “Disaster Recovery and IIS 6.0: Metabase backups in a Nutshell.”  The main reason I put that webcast together is to ensure that customers had prescriptive guidance on the “what” & “how” of doing backups of IIS servers.

Script this, or script that...That is the latest buzz in my world.  This could be because I scripted this & that in my some webcasts to demonstrate how to do some cool things with certain administrative tasks in IIS.
